Completed - FMAATC Membership Renewal via PayPal

Post by Neil Wilson »

FMAATC renewal membership payment via PayPal has been implemented. So, anyone wanting to renew via PayPal can find out the requirements at http://fmaatc.org/membership/

Thanks to Clark Sawyer for his input and helpful testing.
Original posting text.

Does anyone have the time to check out and document the cost of having a PayPal account so that FMAATC members could make club renewal payments (currently $9US). If yes, please post the costs for everyone to see. I don't have the time to re-analyze this myself.
  • As I recall, I checked into this (maybe two years ago). I should have documented what I found since all I remember is that it was just too costly to collect small amounts (like $9.00) from not that many of the club members.
Some members do on-line banking to pay bills. There are no costs involved as the bank mails the check (at least that is what my bank does).

About $.55 cents per transaction, so, a buck extra would cover it.
No set-up fees, Paypal button on your website... Would also allow taking Credit cards...Less than a stamp and an envelope, plus the hard work of finding the club address, a pen, time to do it, when you remember... lol

spectria,

The URL you posted provides what the costs are and that sounds okay with a $10 renewal rather than $9.

Maybe you, or someone would research installing a PayPay button into the club site (or at least provide URL's where the information exists). The club site is build via WordPress.

Neil,
I simply went to the paypal site and followed the prompts, the site created HTML code to copy and paste into your website...
With the excellent work you have done on the AA site, you shouldn't have a problem...

Even thou I am up to my eyebrows working on JS revisions, I did end up calling PayPal and found out that I can not use a pay button with a personal PayPal account. It requires a business account. So, that would be the first task and I have started that process.

As with most additions to the site - nothing is simple and requires lots of trial and error effort to actually implement something that many think should "not be a problem". It is going to take more than just dumping a button on the club site. The button is actually the easier part of the process. The learning process is steep. At least for me.

At this point, I don't think anyone will be provide the detail I might need to accomplish the task. I may or may not have the time to work on this before the 2015 newsletter. If I do get something implemented, then the renewal notices can be reprogrammed to reflect the additional renewal payment method.
