Seat springs
Can somebody please post a picture of a 30/31 AA seat cushion (bottom) assy? I'd like to compare the real thing to what I'm working with. Thanks.
R/ Roger.

Re: Seat springs
Hello Roger,
Here are couple of pics that may help you, posted by a member of this board ?, I don't have any dimensions, do a search if you are fitting upholstery, if I remember it was discussed a few years ago.

Re: Seat springs
Note that the seat cushions shown above are for the 82-A cab. The 82-B closed cab seats are about the same. As I recall, the 82-B seat back is about 1-3/4" higher than the 82-A. The attached picture is all that I have which shows original upholstery for the 82-B.

Re: Seat springs
Neil,
The 82B seems to have no front overhang compared to the 82A, is that right?
None of the seat bottoms have wood frames, correct?

Re: Seat springs
I don't know if the difference is the seat spring or the seat riser. My guess is that the seat riser extends further to the front.
Vendors sell seat springs and I believe that they are very close to correct. I bought a set of 82-A springs and they were basically the same as original springs. The cushion spring was not as square at the rear corners. But, this portion of the spring does not show.

Re: Seat springs
I am working on a 1928 AA with a Canadian built Brantford cab, I have the cab almost ready for paint on the exterior but have yet to get correct seat springs. The cab is almost the same dimensions as the Ford built cab and the seat frame looks to be a similar shape. The question I have is, does anybody have dimensions for the original Ford seat springs? Maybe, with a little luck I can make them work. Thanks for you help in advance.

Roger,
I believe the indented firewall, steel top cabs have a wood base seat frame.

Re: Seat springs
The cushion I'm working with has a wood frame, and it has a 1.5" overhang like the one photo does. The seat riser has the spots for the 'fold down located tabs'. I was able to repair and repad the springs yesterday, and covered them with some sturdy fabric, but the covers I was going to use didn't look right so I'm looking for better ones. I'll share some pics here to soon. Thanks to all!
R/ Roger.

Re: Seat springs
If someone has the correct lower seat cushion for the 82a I would like to know the distance from the front edge to the rear, and the height from the bottom to the top.
Thanks in advance Brian T.

Re: Seat springs
What's interesting is that the bead-welting is located below the top edge of the seat. I started re-upholstering my seat using the old patterns and screwed up the first one by not overlapping the material where the cover follows the curve of the front edge. I've seen enough original seats to know this is the correct location of the bead but it would seem like the bead would be at the top, not 1/3 of the way down. Any, I'll take it all apart AGAIN, as usual.....................

Re: Seat springs
Also note that the skirt is held in the channel at the bottom of the spring. The original skirt has a cord sewn around the bottom and the channel is crimped around the cord.
Attached are a couple of pictures showing a cover being installed onto the seat cushion.

Re: Seat springs
I wonder why they made the covers like that: Easier to clean? Are the regular A's that way too?
