There are stress concentrations at corners of gussets welded on. If the gusset is turned or shaped to radius these corners or to locate them on the neutral axis of the frame channel (the center, between the two legs), the weldment is less likely to fail in fatigue from cyclic loading (normal loaded driving, with bounces, etc) because the stress concentrations are reduced.

Very nice welding. I'm sure you checked the width of the original spring - the new cross member looks a bit narrow.

The front spring fits OK. The cross member I bought from Neal a long while back, he said it is a service replacement part.
It doesn't have all the holes drilled , so it will fit the frame you have. The weld I used is 6011 . Thanks a WHOLE LOT Trevor for the front frame parts , THEY WORKED OUT GREAT!!!!!! Mac......
