coupling shaft

Post by 56fire31aa »

Hi,
I am working on a 1931 AA 157 WB. It has the coupling shaft with the male female gear on the back of the transmission. The tube that covers the shaft is in rough shape. It has cracked and been welded and cracked again. I am wondering if their is supposed to be a crimp on both ends. Also, I am wondering about dimensions, so I could make one if necessary.
Thanks,
Steve

I don't have the dimensions but here is a picture that was posted before
and you can see the bead near each end of the tube.

The attached is of the housing for the AA131. I believe that the AA157 housing is the same design (just longer).

I have an extra 1930 swb housing "tube" with 2 good ends that could be lengthened.

Steve,

I've made these already from a piece of exhaust pipe tubing. I just run a bead of weld around the tube where the raised section is and then grind it smooth. I'll check the length of an original for you.

For my project I am returning 1930 AA157 to original. Long story but I don't have original shaft. Had to buy coupling shaft for short wheel base and plan to lengthen. Can you tell me exactly how long the coupling shaft is? Thinking it is about 42 inch but would like help confirming. Thanks!
