Brake Rod Guide

speaking of brake rods, the beads on my front brake rods were about 6" forward of the return springs (in addition to being heavily pitted, worn and bent) so I replaced them with rods offered by Snyder's and the beads are still shy of the springs.
Has anyone else encountered this? Snyder's only offers one front rod for 1930-31. Is there a source for different rods or have I got something wrong?

As indicated above - The front rod for the 1930/1931 AA131 and 157 was an AA rod and is not sold by vendors as far as I know. It was 61-5/16" long with an adjustable clevis at the front and an eye at the rear. The rod had a spring pocket button which was 27-3/8" from the fixed eye. The button was for the brake retracting spring.

I checked it out and it's the A-2501-A alright measuring about 61-1/2". I think I just got it in backwards not realizing that the adjustable clevis should face forward (thank you Mr President) from the " pocket button" to the eye measures about 28" so it would seem to be very close to the original spec.

It would be interesting to know if Snyder's sells A-2501-A as for the 1930/1931 AA front rod. The Ford parts list shows part AA-2501 as the 1930/1931 AA front rod.

Here is my research on the Snyder's AA brake rods:

• Snyder's A-2499-B 50-1/2" rod would be the 50-1/2" A-2499-B Ford part. It is for the A chassis plus the front service brake rod for the 1928/1929 AA chassis (those with emergency brakes). RGJS table shows 50-5/8" - needs to be check out.
  
  Snyder's A-2499-D 65-5/16" rod would be the 65-5/16" AA-2499-D Ford part. It is the 1930/1931 AA131 and AA157 AA chassis rear service brake rod.
  
  Snyder's A-2501-A 61-5/8" rod would be the 61-5/8" AA-2501 Ford part. It is the 1930/1931 AA131 and AA157 AA chassis front service brake rod.
  
  Snyder's A-2864-B 63-5/8" rod would be close to the 63-7/8" AA-2864-B Ford part which is listed as being for the 1930/1931 emergency brake rod. RGJS table shows 62-1/8". That is 1-3/4" shorter. This needs to be checked out.

I have added a task on my calendar to check out the two RGJS table differences.

I was looking at the brakes on my AA today and it looks like a few of my brake rods are bent. I did a search and found this post.

Has anyone used the snyder's brake rods? Are they correct?

they can be straightened relatively easily. The ones on my truck I had to straighten. They arent perfect but pretty darn close.

Thanks Stakebed, are you just heating them up and bending them back into place? My concern would be they would loose their strength by doing that.

I just cold bent em. Mine were mostly straight but had a bunch of bows and bends. If yours are more slinky than brake rod I would think about replacing them.

I made this today to visualize the rear brake rods on the 88-A, relative to each other . Not sure what the offset should be, took a stab, based on the return spring offset, and set them 2 inches apart.
