Newbie AA
Re: Newbie AA
Got the race off this morning, there's no number on it, shaft is 3/4", a little heat and love got it off. I can get all the bearings but they run about $800 (without the Hyatt) , not a big deal, just the cheapskate in me complaining, I've got another place pricing them too.

Re: Newbie AA
Well did they give you the modern day replacement numbers? If so take them and search around. I got all 4 of my parts off ebay NOS make an offer deal. Boxes were a bit beat up from being in a drawer somewhere but numbers matched and factory wrapped in oil/cosmoline.
Re: Newbie AA
That's my plan boss , problem is I live in Canada, the shipping will cost as much as the bearings or more, just a quick eBay shopping cart check came out to 250-300$, but shipping was $50 more than the bearings, there's a border shipping service I can use (ship to a US address where I can pick up) but then I have to spend a day on the road running for bearings plus fuel money. I'll do it right, I'll just have to get a couple quotes, and see what's the best bang for my buck. Also us to can money exchange is $1 us = 1.3 can so that doesn't help my cause.Stakebed wrote:Well did they give you the modern day replacement numbers? If so take them and search around. The ID of the 404 bearing is 1.125 so it doesn't look like it will work with your inner race.

Re: Newbie AA
Just an update. I was able to get all the original timken bearings, half through eBay and the rest through my local bearing supplier (eBay ones including shipping were just cheaper, all were readily available). The rear axel seals ended up being a regular 55 mm by 85 mm seal except the outer diameter was a hair large. I got a pair that were rubber coated, I used a wire wheel to remove the rubber on the outside of the seal, then applied loctite retaining compound to it to hold her in place. The Hyatt bearing and race are not bad so I'll reuse them as I tried getting a race off eBay and the guy couldn't find it and the other gent who has two listed won't reply when I ask about shipping cost. I have a lead on another frame with a diff in it but it's in a snow drift so I'll put reassembly on hold till spring as I'd still like to find a better diff gear set. Thanks for the help gents, I'll keep you posted.

Cool - sounds like fun! FYI i think the dual high shaft seals are the same for a transfefr case out of a 70's jeep haha. Napa had em in stock on the shelf for $7. Sure beats the $16 parts catalogs wanted so it always pays to shop around.
Re: Newbie AA
Finally got around to checking out that diff (that was in a snow drift) last week, ends up it's a 30-31 worm drive. There's a timken diff/frame in the swap n shop area here now I called about but for what the gents asking for the whole frame/tranys/ diff plus shipping I can get a new pinion gear and drive made. Not rushing things, going to keep my eyes open, never know when something will pop up. Just thought you guys may want an update

Sorry, it's the first one I've seen, I saw the split case but thought the configuration looked like a worm drive, I identified the truck as a 30-31 by the fenders, wheels etc.
