Anybody know the story on this Express?

Post by aland »

I bet you guys thought you got rid of me, huh? No fat chance...

I was curious if anyone knows the story on this Express that was listed on Ebay recently:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1929-Ford-Mode ... 3088570545

I was watching the auction, it was bid up to about $10k, then the seller pulled it.

Seems like it may have been pieced together, as there are several red flags in the auction listing...but it is one really cool truck.

Anybody know who owns it?

I am sure that I have seen this truck on Ebay before the current listing. And, I thought it sold for about 12k. But, just a guess. I agree that it is a nice express except for the wrong rear fenders and wheel carrier plus the missing floor tie down straps. I don't know who owns it.

Neil,

I was thinking it would hit $15k, and if I was in a better position, I'd be a bidder at that price...there was a phone number on the auction listing, so I could call and talk to the guy...wasn't sure if he got cold feet and pulled it thinking it wouldn't bring as much as he had hoped for, but you can never tell until the auction closes...on ebay it's the last few seconds of the auction that determine the sale price in most cases.

The reason I stated there was some red flags is that he says he restored it after finding it in Reno, and the Indian sign is coolness off the charts, IMO, but then he is not sure about some of the basic stuff and says there are no receipts...not sure if something is fishy with the auction or not, but there is some red flags...that's all I am saying.

Even though not original, it is still a really cool truck and I don't think anyone would be disappointed to own it. I know I wouldn't. :)

Would be nice if he came around here and discussed it. That truck is off the coolness charts for someone interested in a AA/Express, even if not 100% original. My $0.02...all of our mileage varies...

I don't see any red flags. Sounds like the person he bought it from did the work and that is
why the seller doesn't have receipts. My guess is someone offered him more money that he
though it was worth and ended the auction early and sold it off Ebay with no sellers fees.

Bob,

You could be right, but I would have expected a bit more detail from someone who purchased and owned the truck for a while, especially if he had work done on it himself. I wasn't casting doubt on his auction, but it seemed like a round about way of saying he didn't know if it was original...but I suspect he knows it's not. No worries, it's a very cool truck.
