How does this come apart?

Post by Deere boy »

I guess the coupler has to come off the shaft, but does it have a pin through it, or is it just stuck on? The flange/housing slide back and forth so it is ready to go. It was getting dark when I got it to this point so I didn't have a lot of time to examine it.

There is a bolt that holds the U-joint on to the shaft, use a socket and extension to get it off.

Once the u-joint is removed, then the rear support can be removed from the dual high.

Bolt is inside u-joint. I believe 1/2 inch.

Does anyone ever put any sealer or anything around the inside of this coupler housing where it slides on?

There is a felt seal that goes in there, I think the link is the right one. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/coupling-shaft-felt
