warford install, shift tower hole
my 28 AA has a stock hole under the seat. i wonder if it was for the underdrive accessory. i am installing a warford and it seems that i am going to have to cut the sheet metal around the factory hole to allow the warford to be picked up to install. i hate to take the floor pan out. question, what was this hole for? has anyone successfully put in a warford with the floor pan in tact without altering the factory hole? i know there was a post last year about having trouble clearing the u joint in front to slide it together. any ideas? or suggestions?

No factory hole under the seat. At least not on mine. It will take two holes for the Warford. One under the seat and another in the seat riser.

The hole under the seat would be on the 28's and early 29's for the dip stick to check the oil level in the Dual High. Original surviving under the seat floor pans I've found are none too common. Finding a way to save it in tact as much as is possible would be a plus in my book.

this was a reproduction pan i installed years ago. the warford was an after thought. now i at least know that this is not the warford shift tower hole. warford does not want to go in when using this hole. i will have to adapt it. thank you for you knowledge. kevin

This is what I had to do to my floor pan to get the Warford in . I enlarged the hole on one side so I could get the oil filler plug out. I'll pit a rubber plug in the original hole.

was the original hole in the center? it looks from the photo like the warford tower is off center??? is that the hole behind the tower or an optical illusion?

Optical illusion, the Warford is dead center and the original hole was off center.

No it was on the wrong side and too far out - for the Warford. Maybe it was for the original ford auxillary transmission?

question, when you installed your warford did you have to alter any u joints to fit all together in between cross member and transmission? i had to cut about 3/8 of an inch off the U joint that mates to the front of the warford. there was no way to clear the "nose" on the front of the warford. if you didn't have to adust anything perhaps that u joint you used was slightly smaller. i am just glad it is in, what a challene, even lining up the splines and input shaft. any ideas, comments appreciated. thank you kevin

Hi Kevin, No, I didn't have to modify any of the U joints - I thought I may have to as they all needed to push right to the ends of the splines but they seemed to do that fine. You are right, it is quite a mission to get in, especially if you are on your own. I think having an extra pair of hands would have made it a lot easier!

Mine was about 3" wide x 1.5" high.
