Hello
I am new to the Forum but not to the Model A / AA hobby.
I recently was given permission to purchase a 1930 Ford AA Truck engine # AA3966089 that belonged to a Marine Fighter pilot who was shot down in Korea 1953. The Truck has been sitting behind his Cabin in the Rocky Mountains since he enlisted in 49.
My question is the truck has a platform bed on it with fold down sides...I cannot find anything on this type of platform and was curious if anyone knew if it was original or a home build.

About 50% of the AA chassis built were sold as a chassis or as a cab and chassis. It is likely that your AA was originally sold as a cab and chassis and a cargo body added for the buyer by the dealer or body supplier.Devils Gulch Garage wrote: ↑March 4th, 2019, 10:18 pmMy question is the truck has a platform bed on it with fold down sides...I cannot find anything on this type of platform and was curious if anyone knew if it was original or a home build.

It looks like you are lucky enough to have one with the original engine still in it.

Re: Field Find 1930 Model AA truck
Thank you everyone for the kind words and I had not considered it being a cab chassis but that is a likely scenario.
I plan on a full frame off nut and bolt restoration and either a platform or drop side bed, replating or repainting all original parts sourcing needed original parts and using minimal aftermarket parts.
I know the restoration cost will exceed the value most likely but this is a preservation of a truck for future generations to enjoy and I'm a factory original restoration guy.
I have included a few of my other builds and all are long term pursuits of original vehicles some took years to acquire as buying a vehicle that has an emotional attachment by the owner takes time to build relationships.
Each vehicle was a field find and not pretty when I was given the opportunity to purchase from the original owners

People like to have a vehicle that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. But there are a lot who appreciate survivors. If I found your truck I would go through it replacing what must be replaced. Detail it to the max. Drive it and enjoy it. It can be restored a thousand times. It is only original once.

I agree with Chris. Whenever people come into my shop and see both my A and AA sitting there they always say "that car is nice but man that truck is cool" or something to that degree. The gentleman I bought it from actually asked me to please NOT restore it.Chris Haynes wrote:People like to have a vehicle that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.
