I'm about to remove the rear axle and begin the rebuild for my '31. I'm searching for a sort of punch-list of the steps, preferably in order for dismantling, repair/replacement, and re-assembly. I have the Jim Schild book for AA's which includes a chapter on rear axle. I"m looking for something in addition.
Any suggestions?

Pages 413-414 of the Service Bulletins have what you are looking for.

wild4679 & Bob C,
I am at the same stage as you are and looking for the same answers.
I have my complete 1931 rear on a dolly and just drained the oil and am now ready to disassemble.
I am not sure I know the specific "Service Bulletin" resource being referred to. Could you please give me more details?
Dave

You need to get a copy of the Model A Service Bulletins, there is a ton of information in it.

I hope that you both take lots of pictures and lots of notes on what works and what does not. I will most likely need your knowledge when I do mine.
