Early 1928 AA floor mats
I have found a place that can make the floor mat for the early 1928 AA-82161 with Dual High with left hand break. It will cost $2500-$3000 to tool up for production. Is anyone interested in buying these mats if I go ahead and have some produced.

I would be interested, depending on price. With the tooling costs above, if you had 100 mats built, the tooling would add $30 to the cost, not considering any mfg costs. How many can you build?

They could manufacture any amount I want. The cost would be $35 - $40 dollars per mat then if there were 100 mats made the cost would be $70 per mat.

If the price is in that ballpark, count me in. Thank you.

Re: Early 1928 AA floor mats
W Simshauser, My research shows that the AA-82161 was A-35230 but with the two Dual High cutout holes. The potential customer base would increase if the A-35230 were made. Instructions on where the Dual High cutout holes should be made could be provided. The customer base would be most all A and AA vehicles with the left-hand brake lever.W Simshauser wrote: ↑February 24th, 2022, 3:57 pmI have found a place that can make the floor mat for the early 1928 AA-82161 with Dual High with left hand break. Good suggestion, Neil. I did not realize the dual-high had extra holes. My firetruck does not have a dual high, so I would be interested in the mat without the holes. Rather than detailed instructions on cutting the holes, you could have the new mats have impressions on the back side to indicate the hole locations.

That is a good suggestion. I do have pieces of the original floor mat from my 1928 AA truck. My mat has a square area where the FORD logo goes as where the drawings show the oval logo. Unfortunately just the upper left corner of the logo area survived and none of the FORD survived. Does any one have a surviving mat that I could compare with my pieces?

You should order the drawings for the mat from Ford.

You can get the EI number from the MAFFI site.

Re: Early 1928 AA floor mats
Bill, I have the AA-82161/A-35230 03-09-1928 Ford engineering drawing. I used it as the base for my drawing. I can share it with you but with restrictions (you can't publish it and only used it for research). That's how I bought it. Email neil@aafords.com. The attached show a list of the nine Ford engineering drawings 10/22/27—3/9/28 from the upper corner of the drawing.W Simshauser wrote: ↑February 27th, 2022, 8:16 amNeil

I could not find any reference to the Ford script on the rubber mats in the RGJS. Hmm!

Re: Early 1928 AA floor mats
It has been determined that the earliest '28's did not have mat retaining studs at the base of the hinge pillar, so it would be good to leave those holes out as well. They could be added by the owner if needed, similar to the dual high holes.
And yes, I'd be interested in a mat for my truck.
